The room echoed with the sound of the rain hitting the roof. He couldn't stand the rain. Every drop that fell made his stomach ache. It disgusted him that so many people loved it.
He remembered a friend running around outside wearing no sort of protection against the cold, wet, precipitation. He had laughed from under his umbrella. His friend looked so foolish galloping along the dampened streets letting the rain soak him. He had laughed again the next day when his friend caught pnemonia. Though, it hadn't been all that funny.
He sat now in his room, his only light provided by a small oil lamp that he loved. It reminded him that times could always be rougher than they were at the present moment. He loved the smell of the kerosene as it drifted away in a wisp of clear smoke towards the ceiling. He also loved to read, and now he sat reading the latest book in the latest V.C. Andrews series, Brooke. He had yet to explore V.C.'s first works. He had begun his fascination with her writing with the book Melody, and then had moved straight to the Orphans series. He couldn't wait for Raven to arrive, and then the book that brought the 4 orphans together. He felt a bit weird reading them because he was a guy, and all the books were about girls, and were written by a woman. But, it was quality writing, so he read it.
The rain continued to pound down on the roof. He glanced at the clock to notice that it was nearing ten o'clock at night. His brothers should already be in bed. He got up from his bed and walked through the house hoping to find them. But he didn't. And they weren't the only two missing. He seemed to be the only one home. A shriek broke through his thoughts. It seemed to be coming from outside. But how could anyone be out there, when they could be inside? He walked to the front door and opened it.
Two of his sisters were running through a mud puddle. Avery merely giggled when he walked outside. But Jessica picked up a handful of mud and slung it at him. It didn't hit him, but he still scowled. His other sister, Zoe, was in the arms of his mother. Well, her mother as well, but that's still where she was. His father was swinging his brother Mackie around in a circle. His brothers, Isaac and Zachary, were dancing wildly around a flagstone. They all looked crazy, but, they also looked happy.
He took another step forward. A cool raindrop hit the top of his head, and, surprisingly, it soothed him. He took another step forward, and was then promptly hit in the face with a scoopful of mud. Without thinking, he reached down, grabbed a fistful of his own, and slung it. He managed to hit his father in the side. And that began a mud fight. He never had realized how much fun the rain could be. But, this was actually soothing. He had been tense for a while, probably the result of too much touring, but that tenseness was now gone. And it was all because of the rain.
And each night after that, when the rain fell softly on the roof, Jordan Taylor Hanson took the time to enjoy it, and to realize that everything is for a reason. And besides that, the rain helped him sleep, but only as soon as he realized it. So, realize that some things you hate, are only superficial, and should not be as hated as they are. Love the rain.
