I woke up yesterday to the smell of burning toast. It's great to be home.
When you tour -- thousands of miles, thousands of faces -- everything becomes a blur. You have to make a note on your hand so you don't screw up saying hello to whatever city you're in because no matter how much sleep you got the night before in your tiny bunk on the bus, it's not enough to refresh you to any manifest degree.
Even the venues begin to merge into one entity of sorts. They're all a bit different, but when you get on the stage, and you begin to play, it's just like every other venue.
Oh, there are exceptions, of course. You remember the way the seats were in Nashville, and the lack of signs in Charlotte. You remember a fan or two or three who you actually got to meet, and they thanked you. I've got a ring tha I wear from such a fan. I can't even say I remember her name, but she made an impression. I still wear the ring.
I remember standing, ready to walk out into the auditorium for one concert or another, and it was loud like usual. Then, it was quiet for a second and someone yelled, "Hey, guys? Thanks for being here!" That made my night that time. I can't remember the city, but we played an extra song or two that night.
We played a lot of new songs on this tour. It shouldn't have surprised me to see fans singing along on the second time we play a song for an audience. But, it did. We've been told we're not exactly articulate singers, but the fans seem to make out the lyrics just fine over the endless screams.
I even got assaulted a few times on this tour. Either the fans are getting bolder, or security's getting weaker. Either way, I, Taylor Hanson, have been groped by members of both the female and male persuasions. It was an interesting experience.
Ike's obsessed with Jonny Lang. Even I think he's a cool guy, but Ike takes hero-worshipping a bit too far. Although, the boy can play.
Speaking of Ike, I hear that a lot of people think he and I have something going on "In the City". I can't really blame them. We're mike hogs. We accidentally touched lips one night. But, after that,we trieda little harder not to get too close. It seemed to have worked, except that I got smacked with Ike's guitar once or twice after that.
So, the touring is over. Well, for now. We'll tour again. But, for now, we'll see what we can do about the next album.
It's hard to balance all the different parts of being a "famous" musician. You're expected to your, put out new albums, go on TV shows and radio shows, put out singles, videos, special MTV programming... yet, someone is always unhappy despite the fact that they're the ones making money off of you.
Then, there's the whole hanson.net deal. It was an idea... I just wonder how good an idea it was. It's too inclusive, I think. It'd be nice if we could just give out a year's suscription with an album, then let it be good until the next album comes out. Then, anyone who liked it would buy the album. Yeah. That's an idea.
Zac's hogging the shower. I think I'm going to go flush the toilet repeatedly. It's good to be home.
