Taylor Hanson sat at the desk in his room and glanced over the lyrics he'd written.
I sit on the corner, waiting for you. My heart is pounding, speaking the truth. You promised you would be here today.
Exasperated by the search for the next line, he held up his red gel pen and glanced at the lightly glistening tip. Without thinking, he plunged the tip of the pen into his mouth and began running over possibilities for that next line.
I don't know why you'd show up anyway.
I sit and wait there, endlessly.
When you arrive, will it feel the same?
But, without his realization as he was thinking, he had begun to suck lightly on the pen. He was so deep in thought that he didn't notice that it began to puddle up in his mouth. Finally, he thought of a good line and pulled the pen from his mouth to begin to write.
When he leaned forward to see the words in the twilight's dimming illumination, a thin trail of the blood red ink streamed from his mouth to the thin paper in front of him.
Quickly, he hopped up from his chair and ran to the bathroom. He entered and began spitting the ink into the sink, never noticing the few small chunks of flesh that began to come as he coughed at the bitter taste and the suddenly aching pain, nor did he realize that he was no longer coughing up ink, but blood.
He was beginning to get dizzy and was now grasping at anything he could to support his weight as he felt his throat burning and felt some inner part of himself being separated from his body.
Then, he stopped coughing and let out a final breath as his head fell to porcelain doom with the blood and ink that reached for his skin as a new home and set in with a pattern in mind.
When his parents found him later with shrieks and cries, they didn't notice the goosebumps on his arms that had been there since the beginning or the words the stains formed, if you looked close enough.
Warning: Do Not Try This At Home, Mr. Professional. The news reports never gave the cause of death because the autopsy has inconclusive results.
