The Game Of Give and Take

The Game Of Give And Take

If given the moment and the means,
peace could be reality, rather than a precocious child's Christmas wish.
If given time and patience,
all people could live up to the expectations of Perfection.
If given anything,
nothing would cease to be.
If given that or this,
boredom may bid farewell or may strengthen two-fold.
If given happiness,
for what would we strive?
If given a great leader,
who would we burn in effigy?
If given taking,
what would be left behind?

Give and take...
a heavy game with pricking pieces.
What one gives, one must take...
and what one takes, one must give...
or such is said in this or that Perfection's rules.
But such is not as such,
and naught is not as naught.

Games are played by precocious children
who took them as their Christmas gift.
Peace is talked about as a useless ideal
that has no place in a world of war.
Time and patience lose themselves:
in one, another and in each other.
Anything and nothing and all between
stand and sit and dim and strengthen.
Boredom catches happiness in strong folds
and with careful clutches keeps strong hold.
Great leaders burn by Perfection's standards
and their ideals lose in the endless game.
And taking takes as giving gives,
but all is not redeemed.
